Camp Riggs Johnston

A little known jewel exists in our Council  This is Camp Riggs Johnston.  It is nestled in the Redwoods by Eureka, CA.

Kitchen, dining hall and one of the bunkhouses at Camp Riggs Johnston near Eureka.

This former logging camp has served as a Scout camp since 1952.

Camp Riggs Johnston was formerly a logging camp belonging to the Carson Lumber Company.
Originally a large lumber camp complete with rail facilities including an engine house and water tower,
there is presently little remaining.

The present dining hall and kitchen were part of the original facility.
Through the years there were a number of owner ending with the present owner, Pacific Lumber Company.
The camp has been leased to the Scouts since 1952.  At the present time the council has a
resident caretaker/ranger living at the camp.

Plans are presently in the works to install a new water system and well and eventually a shower facility.
Presently there is no drinking water or showers at the camp.
Campers are asked to bring their own drinking water.
